Zobbe is really self-conscious though, so he doesn't use that ability too much to avoid being called weird. Aside from that, I imagine non-food things are mostly lacking in both flavor and nutrition, so he doesn't really have a reason to eat those.

Totally agree with choices though. Meaningful choices would, of course, slow down development way too much, but I'd be glad to see more flavor choices.

They've been selecting people with best personal qualities, so they could accept, well, everything that goes on and fit in the crew. I also suspect sexuality played a certain part in this, which means there wasn't a lot of suitable candidates.
